“Man United Are A More Productive Team Without Ronaldo” – Neville

In a Sky Sports discussion about who would be Manchester United’s No. 9 if Cristiano Ronaldo and Wout Weghorst were competing for the position. Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville got into a spat.

After being neglected by Erik ten Hag, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner departed Old Trafford in tumultuous circumstances earlier this season.

In the summer of 2021, he returned for a second spell at United. But time had caught up with him and he was unable to work his old magic.

Ronaldo was frequently benched because his goals did not adequately reflect his overall performance and impact on the squad. That proved to be too much for him.

And he expressed his annoyance in a Piers Morgan interview. As a result, he left the team, leaving Ten Hag with a void to fill in the final third.

The Red Devils went on to secure the signing of Wout Weghorst in the winter transfer window.

Despite the fact that the Dutchman has only scored twice for the Red Devils. Gary Neville displayed some stats which indicate that United are a more effective team. Both in terms of wins and goals scored when Weghorst is on the team rather than Ronaldo.

What Did Neville And Carragher Say About Weghorst and Ronaldo

The Sky Sports pundit said: “It wasn’t working at the end, he’s left, that was a provocative (stats) chart, but it is right and shows why Ten Hag is picking Weghorst.”

Carragher instantly hit back: “You said they shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath, you put it up!”

Neville then proceeded: “I don’t know, I don’t know who I’d pick. I think you’d move it from game to game, sometimes I’d pick Ronaldo, sometimes I’d pick Weghorst. If I was playing at home, I’d play Ronaldo, if I was away from home, I’d probably pick Weghorst,” The Mirror claimed.
