Man City Star Kyle Walker In Doubt For World Cup After Groin Surgery

Manchester City and England defender Kyle Walker is in doubt for this year’s World Cup after undergoing groin surgery this week.

The 32-year-old was pulled off with an injury just before halftime in City’s 6-3 derby victory over Manchester United last Sunday, and he then missed Wednesday’s 5-0 Champions League triumph over Copenhagen.

Pep Guardiola said following City’s midweek success at the Etihad Stadium that Walker’s latest injury might keep him out for “weeks.”

“It will be for a while, weeks,” the Spaniard told reporters. “I don’t know (whether he will make the World Cup). I know how important the World Cup is for the players.”

Man City have since issued a statement on their official website confirming Walker’s successful groin surgery and stating that “a more detailed prognosis will be provided in due course.”

Meanwhile, Kyle Walker has utilized social media to provide an update on his condition, writing on Twitter: “As players we have to appreciate injuries are part and parcel of the game we love.

“My operation on Tuesday was a success and now I can concentrate on my rehab and getting back to full fitness. I will be supporting my team mates every day in any way I can.”

There is presently no timeframe for Walker’s possible comeback, although the Daily Telegraph reports that recovery from groin surgery typically takes six to eleven weeks.

The 70-cap England international is therefore a serious doubt for the World Cup in Qatar, with the Three Lions set to face Iran in their first Group B game on November 21.

Kyle Walker is still hopeful of making the World Cup, as per Sky Sports News, and medics are aware that the defender has been a “quick healer” from prior injuries.
