Liverpool To Open Contract Talks With Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool are reportedly expected to hold contract talks with defender Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer.

The right-back has had a mixed season at Anfield, garnering significant criticism towards the middle of the season for perceived poor defensive performances.

At a time when Liverpool’s defense was struggling, the academy graduate was not producing his usual number of goals and assists.

However, that has changed since the beginning of April, with a spectacular one goal and six assists from his last eight Premier League starts.

This has coincided with Liverpool recovering some form in England’s top division, and Jurgen Klopp’s side is still in position to finish in the top four.

Despite Klopp’s faith in the 24-year-old throughout his disappointing spell, a sale was still a possibility.

However, Football Transfers reports that the Merseyside giants are now willing to extend Alexander-Arnold’s contract beyond 2024-25.

According to the report, Liverpool were initially interested in an extension until 2029, but it is now believed that such terms would not be signed.

If the negotiations are successful, Liverpool will have some clarity in a situation that could be contentious in the future.

James Milner, who has played there on occasion, will leave on a free transfer this summer, while young understudy Calvin Ramsey has missed the majority of the season due to injury.

Joe Gomez is a possibility in that position, but it has been reported that Liverpool could choose to part with the versatile defender in the coming months.

While it is possible that competition could be signed in the upcoming transfer window, any newcomer would most likely have to start as a backup to Alexander-Arnold.

The England international has contributed 16 goals and 71 assists from his 271 appearances for Liverpool
