Liverpool Target Takes Blame For Germany Defeat To Austria

In an international friendly in Leopoldstadt, Germany fell to Austria 2-0, handing Julian Nagelsmann his second loss as manager of Die Mannschaft.

Austria’s goals came from TSG Hoffenheim’s Christoph Baumgartner and former Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who both scored in the first and second half of the match.

Overall, Austria outshot the visitors 7-3 for shots on target and Alexander Schlager was just not tested enough. Even though Germany had a few half-credible chances.

From the start, Nagelsmann went with a back three consisting of Mats Hummels, Jonathan Tah, and Antonio Rüdiger, with Kai Havertz and Julian Brandt playing as inverted wing backs.

However, Germany didn’t appear to have a strong structure. Austria found it far too simple to thread their way through Germany’s midfield and generate opportunities seemingly out of thin air.

In the 49th minute, Leroy Sané’s momentary but severe lack of judgment caused tempers to flare up when he clipped Austria’s Phillipp Mwene on the back of the heel. Severely worsening the situation for the three-time European Championship winners.

After Sané’s challenge, there seemed to be a heated argument between the two, and Bayern’s number 10 went on to shove the Mainz player.

The referee had no choice but to send Sané off despite the fact that the two had been at odds for the majority of the first half.

What Did Sane Say About His Sending Off?

According to BavarianFootballWorks, following the game, Sané took the entire responsibility for Germany’s defeat. Claiming that his resentment had been steadily growing since Germany’s 3-2 loss to Turkey in Berlin.

“The game is on me, that can’t happen to me. No blame to the boys, no blame to my opponent. I was frustrated with my own performance – today, but also against Turkey,” the rumored Liverpool target explained to Sport1.
