Liverpool Star Sent Home From International Duty Upon Arrival

Federico Chiesa will not be able to play for Italy during the international break in March.

In a statement from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), it was confirmed Chiesa was released from the team’s camp in Coverciano, with a replacement already named.

“Following an assessment of his physical condition upon arrival at the Federal Training Centre, Federico Chiesa has been ruled out of the next two matches and, in agreement with his club, has left the national team’s training camp,” the statement read as quoted by talkSPORT.

“Bolonga player Nicolo Cambiaghi has been called up to replace him.”

Chiesa, who had been called up to the Italy squad for the first time since 2024, has suffered a terrible blow.

The 28-year-old’s last appearance for the Azzurri came during the nation’s Euro 2024 round of 16 defeat to Switzerland.

Chiesa Signed For Liverpool In 2024

Chiesa moved from Juventus to English giants Liverpool at the same time that he was exiled from the Italian national team.

In August 2024, the winger signed a contract worth up to £12.5 million to join the Reds.

With Chiesa’s arrival, the Reds made their first acquisition under Arne Slot.

The Italian’s stay in Merseyside hasn’t quite gone as planned, though.

The 28-year-old has only made 46 appearances for the Reds in all competitions since joining, and only nine of those have been starts.

Chiesa’s passionate, high-energy cameos off the bench have won him over the Anfield supporters despite his little playing time.
