Liverpool Star Breaks Silence After Being Sent To Hospital

Liverpool goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was stretchered off during Sunday’s Merseyside derby against Everton has thanked fans for their support.

Mamardashvili collided with Toffees attacker Beto at the Hill Dickinson Stadium during the hosts’ equalizer in the second half, necessitating his removal.

Third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was called upon to make his Premier League debut for the Reds.

Virgil van Dijk’s header in stoppage time gave Liverpool the victory, but Mamardashvili’s injury is a serious worry moving into the final five games of the season.

Mamardashvili Sends Message

For the first time since Sunday, the Georgia international posted on Instagram, assuring fans that he will soon return to action.

“Thank God everything is fine,” Mamardashvili posted as reported by Liverpool FC. “Thank you all so much for your support and for being by my side. I’ll be back soon. Big win in the derby and 3 points.”

International teammate and Paris Saint-Germain star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as well as Liverpool colleagues Dominik Szoboszlai and Ibrahima Konate, have already reacted to the post with love heart emojis.

After Sunday’s game, Reds manager Arne Slot acknowledged that Mamardashvili had been taken to the hospital, although he hinted that the shot-stopper might not have a lengthy layoff.

“He has gone off to hospital, Slot told Sky Sports. “It looked to me, and that’s also what they told me, that he had a big wound – an open wound. That’s of course not going to be a long-term injury. Let’s see if he is available for next week.”
