Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a possible deal for Hugo Ekitike.
Newcastle United forward, Alexander Isak and Ekitike are the Reds’ top targets as they attempt to rejig their attacking line this summer.
Isak has long been admired by Liverpool, but Newcastle are determined not to let go of the player this transfer window, even though the Reds are prepared to pay more than £100 million for the Sweden international.
Ekitike, a 23-year-old Frenchman who has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards following an outstanding stint with Frankfurt during which he helped them in qualifying for the Champions League, is now the focus of the Reds’ immediate interest.

Newcastle Had Bid For Ekitike Turned Down
Interestingly, Newcastle also want to sign Ekitike, although Frankfurt rejected their offer of €80 million (£69.4 million) on Tuesday.
The Bundesliga outfit are looking for closer to €100 million (£86.7 million) for a player who began his career at Reims, spent 18 months at Paris Saint-Germain, and then moved to Germany at the beginning of 2024.
Given Darwin Nunez’s anticipated departure, Liverpool are looking to add at least one center forward this summer.
Serie A rivals AC Milan and Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal are still interested in the 26-year-old, despite claims that Napoli are no longer in the running.
Both Barcelona and Bayern Munich are interested in Luis Diaz, who played center forward for a major part of the last campaign.
The latter club are anticipated to make a better offer after Liverpool rejected a €67.5 million (£58.6 million) deal earlier this week.
