Liverpool Close To A Loan Deal For Arthur Melo To Solve Injury Crisis

Liverpool are reportedly close to finalizing a deadline-day loan deal for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.

The Reds hope to conclude a deal before the transfer window closes with the 26-year-old Brazilian international scheduled to have a medical today.

There would be no option for the loan to become permanent with the deal seen very much as a short-term solution to Liverpool’s midfield injury crisis.

The Reds already have three injured players: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara, and Naby Keita. Jordan Henderson also hurt his hamstring in yesterday’s victory over Newcastle to join the list.

Meanwhile, Liverpool switched its focus to Arthur after failing in an attempt to get Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig.

Arthur, who made 31 appearances in all competitions last season, has found himself now out-of-favour at Juventus.

Jurgen Klopp has acknowledged that his assumption that Liverpool did not require midfield reinforcements in July was untrue.

The Reds manager is aware that his team needs all the support it can get right now, especially with this weekend’s Merseyside derby against Everton and a Champions League trip to Napoli coming up after that.

If Arthur is registered in time, he could be a part of the Everton game on Saturday.
