Liverpool Close In On Leipzig Midfield Maestro As Newcastle Pull Out

Liverpool are hopeful of completing a deal for RB Leipzig midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai in the summer transfer window.

Due to his successes on the pitch for Leipzig and Hungary, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder has garnered a lot of interest. Particularly from Newcastle United, who are looking to continue making large investments in their squad.

According to Metro, the Magpies have since dropped out of the Hungarian transfer sweepstakes, making Liverpool the favorite to land him.

Even as the frontrunners, the deal appeared unlikely earlier this week. But according to the source, circumstances have changed and Liverpool now fancy their prospects of making another significant acquisition.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the negotiation is “very advanced”. And there are no concerns on personal agreement with the player. Rather, there is simply some last-minute financial wrangling between the clubs.

Liverpool would prefer not to pay the €70 million (£60.1 million) release clause for Szoboszlai, but Leipzig could be firm on it.

Szoboszlai played for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and Champions League last season. He scored 10 goals across all competitions to match his total from the previous campaign.

The Hungarian acknowledged earlier this month that, if the opportunity arose, he would be eager to move to an elite club.

‘There are always rumours about players and clubs in football,’ he told Sport1. ‘I think every kid dreams of a big club, whether it’s in Spain, England or Germany. These are all big clubs in the top five leagues.

‘I’m now in Germany with a top three club, but you know that football is fast-paced, so a lot can happen at any time.’
