Leipzig braced for more defender interest

RB Leipzig are bracing themselves for more speculation regards the future of Dayot Upamecano following reports Manchester City are keen. English Premier League side Arsenal have been heavily linked in the past and remain in the hunt as they look to sign a new central defender, but now City can also be added to the list of admirers.
City, like Arsenal, have issues in central defence after losing players to injury, and Upamecano has been mentioned as a target for Pep Guardiola’s men.
The 21-year-old has caught the eye with his 11 appearances for Leipzig this season and is now one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe.
The France under-21 international has shown he has fully recovered from the knee injury that forced him to sit out the second half of last season, and the offers could now start rolling in.
It has been claimed that the release clause in the player’s contract will drop to £53million ahead of next season and all interested parties will attempt to capitalise on it.
Leipzig will have little chance of keeping hold if that is the case and they could try and renegotiate a new deal with the player that would include a much higher figure.
As well as City and Arsenal, it has been suggested that Tottenham could also enter the running. Even so, City and Guardiola would be confident of seeing off their rivals to get a deal over the line.
