Leeds United Sack Jesse Marsch As Head Coach

Leeds United have parted company with head coach Jesse Marsch after just under a year in charge at Elland Road.

The 49-year-old was sacked after a run of seven Premier League games without a win, leaving the West Yorkshire side in 17th place and just above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Marsch’s dismissal comes less than 24 hours after Leeds fell to Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground, their 10th Premier League defeat of the season.

The American leaves Elland Road with a win percentage of 29.7%, having won 11, drawn 10, and lost 16 games in all competitions.

Marsch is also the seventh Premier League manager to be sacked this season, following Scott Parker, Thomas Tuchel, Bruno Lage, Steven Gerrard, Ralph Hasenhuttl, and Frank Lampard.

Leeds stated on their official website: “Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties.

“Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season.

“Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club.

“The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days.”

Marsch took over for Marcelo Bielsa at the end of the 2021-22 Premier League season and successfully kept Leeds from relegation.

The former Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig manager then oversaw a summer transfer window in which Leeds spent nearly £150 million on seven new signings, with three more arriving at Elland Road in January, including the club-record signing of Georginio Rutter.
