Leandro Trossard Agent Reveals How Tottenham Lost Transfer To Arsenal

Arsenal’s deal to sign former Brighton forward Leandro Trossard was completed quickly, and the player’s agent Josy Comhair has revealed how the Gunners did so.

The Belgium international made his debut as a substitute during Sunday’s 3-2 win over Manchester United after finalising a move to the Emirates Stadium on Friday.

The 28-year-old impressed in his first appearance since New Year’s Eve, due to an injury and the breakdown of his relationship with Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The Gunners agreed to pay £27m to win the race for Trossard, a deal regarded as a notable coup after losing out to Chelsea in the race to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Not only has Arsenal been successful in adding to their squad, but Comhair has admitted that Spurs were beaten to Trossard’s signature by their North London rivals.

Spurs were once considered bookmakers’ favourites as Antonio Conte sought to reverse his team’s downturn in the race for next season’s Champions League.

While it appears that Tottenham were ready to make a move for Trossard before the end of the January transfer window, Comhair has insisted that Arsenal were far more proactive in their pursuit.

The Mirror reported Comhair as saying to reporters: “Spurs were in contact with us for the last two weeks. But it was we want him, but wait this, wait that.

“Wednesday we got in touch with Arsenal – 24 hours later they had an agreement.”

After Arsenal came from behind to defeat Manchester United, Mikel Arteta revealed that increasing the size of his squad was high on his priority list.

Trossard is eligible to make his first start for Arsenal against Manchester City on January 27 after missing Brighton’s third-round win over Middlesbrough.
