Koeman unhappy with Barcelona’s misfiring attackers

Ronald Koeman has admitted he is ‘concerned’ about his misfiring Barcelona attacking players after they failed to win for the fourth successive LaLiga game against 10-man Alaves.

Luis Rioja was on target for the hosts before Jota was shown a straight red card on the hour mark as Antoine Griezmann equalised but the Catalan side were unable to find a victory.

The unconvincing draw failed to lift the mood at Barca after they lost back-to-back games against Getafe and bitter rivals Real Madrid leaving them 12th in the Spanish top flight.

Lionel Messi and Ansu Fati spurned late chances to win the game, and manager Koeman admitted he was unhappy with his misfiring attackers.

Griezmann, Fati and Messi have been Koeman’s preferred front three but they have just six combined league goals in six games so far.

‘I am concerned about the performance up front,’ said Koeman in a post match interview with Marca, ‘It is not a matter of attitude or concentration, but of having more success in front of goal.

‘It happened to us against Juventus and tonight too. In addition, we have given the goal to Alaves.

‘But if we create so many chances, we cannot fail this much. If you create chances and only score one goal, it’s not good enough.’

Another drop in points means Barca are already eight points behind leaders Real Madrid. It is the first time since 2016 the Spanish giants have failed to win in four league games.

Barca face Dinamo Kiev on Wednesday before they welcome Real Betis in the LaLiga next weekend.
