Klopp hints at potential Liverpool return for Gerrard

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted at a possible Anfield return for former captain Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard, who announced his retirement from professional football earlier today, has been heavily linked with a coaching role at Liverpool after the 36-year-old turned down the chance to become the new manager of League One side MK Dons.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Sunderland, Klopp was quizzed over the potential return of Gerrard: ‘This is not the room I want to speak about this,’ he said. ‘When something needs to be announced, we will announce it, then we’ll talk.

‘There will be something to be announced, that’s sure,’ he added. ‘If he wants to make a different career, then we want to help him.

‘Nothing more to say, but maybe that was too much already.’

Klopp, who has had a big impact on the Liverpool supporters since replacing former manager Brendan Rodgers last season, went on to heap praise on ‘legend’ Gerrard.

‘I’m only here 14 months, how could I be the person to say how big these people are?,’ Klopp said.

‘I met a few, I already met Stevie, he’s a great person, far away from wanting to be a legend or be handled as a legend.

‘I saw a few games, I saw all 111 goals, how many was it?’
