Kidderminster Harriers sack Manager Russ Penn

KIDDERMINSTER After four losses in their last five games, the Harriers fired manager Russ Penn.

After being promoted last season, the Harriers are now bottom of the National League table.

Harriers chairman Richard Lane stated in a statement that it was a “difficult decision” to make and praised Penn for his “effort and dedication.”

“I want to record the gratitude of everyone associated with our club to Russ for his tremendous effort and dedication over the last few years, as well as the incredible memories we will all keep with us,” he said on BBC News.

“This is a difficult decision to have taken but one we feel is necessary in our current circumstances.

“Nonetheless, Russ leaves us with our full respect and will always be welcome at Kidderminster Harriers.”

Penn was appointed manager in February 2020 after a brief spell as the interim boss the previous year.

The Harriers have won four out of 28 league games this season and sit at the bottom of the table – seven points away from safety.

In a statement, the club added that they will provide a further update on the managerial position in due course and will make no further comment until that time.

Last season, the Harriers achieved a first promotion in 23 years by capping an end-of-season charge to storm into and win the National League North play-offs.

Under Penn, the Harriers also defeated Championship side Reading FC in the FA Cup third round in 2022.

In the fourth round that year, Premier League squad West Ham were seconds away from being embarrassed by the Harriers at Aggborough – before the Hammers won the game 2-1 after extra time.
