Kane Applauds England’s Tenacity After  50th Goal Secures Draw With Germany

Harry Kane became just the second player in England record to reach 50 goals after his penalty equalized a 1-1 Nations League tie against Germany, but the Three Lions striker was more interested about his team’s “outstanding character” than his own.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane scored a late penalty to put Gareth Southgate’s side ahead of their hosts in Group A3, after a VAR assist enabled them cancel out Jonas Hofmann’s goal at Allianz Arena in Munich.

With his latest goal, Kane now joins Wayne Rooney as the only other England senior men’s international with a half-century of goals for his country – but the skipper was eager to compliment his teammates’ resolve after bouncing back from a setback to Hungary.

What Has Kane Said About The England Team’s Performance?

“It is really important to show the mentality,” Kane told Channel 4 after the game. “We showed great character to come back from a 1-0 behind and win the game.

“We’re up against a really strong German team. There are still significant games to play, but the World Cup will be here before we know it.

“We kept going, and in the last half-hour, we played our best football. It was a shame not to nick it at the end.”

What’s Kane’s Take On His Own Feat?

Spurs striker Kane has moved into sole possession of second position on the country’s all-time scorer lists, ahead of Bobby Charlton and three behind current captain Wayne Rooney.

There are at least four more games before England’s Qatar 2022 World Cup campaign kicks off against Iran in November, so the striker might have climbed to the top by then.

Kane was notably humble about his feat, simply saying: “I love scoring goals. I have always loved it especially for my country. Whenever I can help the team, I am glad to do that.”
