Jurgen Klopp’s Tearful Farewell Tour WILL Affect The Title Race, Trent Alexander-Arnold Admits

Trent Alexander-Arnold has acknowledged that the title fight will be impacted by Jurgen Klopp’s imminent exit from Liverpool.

The German’s announcement in January that he would depart Anfield at the end of the season has caused the Reds to concentrate on making sure the 56-year-old has a fairytale ending.

Liverpool lost at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday, putting them two points behind Manchester City and even with Arsenal with six games remaining, but with a worse goal differential.

Over the previous five seasons, the three have all been involved in close title contests, with City emerging victorious each time.

In 2019, Pep Guardiola’s team finished with 98 points, beating Liverpool to the post by only one point. Three years later, they replicated the victory, ending with 93 points to their opponents’ 92.

‘I think Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season will feed into the title run in.

‘The fear that it gets to May and it’s still tight, then it’ll feed into how it’s going to look and how it could feel up until then.’

Following Klopp’s unexpected declaration that he will stand down at the end of the season, Liverpool hardly missed a beat and, at one stage, appeared headed for an unprecedented quadruple.

That was put to rest by Manchester United, who eliminated their bitter rivals in a thrilling FA Cup quarterfinal last month and held them to a draw in the Premier League a week ago.

And on Sunday, after Atalanta thrashed Liverpool 3-0 to all but ruin Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying for the Europa League, Palace became the second team in three days to win at Anfield and keep Liverpool scoreless.
