Joao Felix ‘Keen To Leave Atletico Madrid In January’

Joao Felix ‘Keen To Leave Atletico Madrid In January’

Joao Felix is reportedly ready to leave Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window with his situation with boss Diego Simeone described as unsustainable.

Felix joined Wanda Metropolitano in 2019 in the fourth-most expensive transfer ever, costing £113 million. There were strong hopes that the 19-year-old would become a legendary character for the team.

Despite helping Atletico Madrid win La Liga in 2020-21, the Portugal international has fallen short of expectations throughout his time in Spain.

In total, the dynamic attacker has only scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists in 123 appearances across all competitions.

None of those goals have occurred this season, with Felix contributing only three assists in 596 minutes divided across 12 games.

Joao Felix Eager To Leave Atletico Madrid In January?

Despite seven starts, Felix has not played 90 minutes since September 3 and was an unused substitute in last week’s goalless draw with Club Brugge.

According to A Bola, the lack of playing time against the Belgians after being asked to warm-up three times has caused him to ‘lose patience’ with Simeone.

The duo are reported to have had a falling out in the past, and it is alleged that their relationship is now “irreparable,” and Felix wishes to depart Colchoneros.

Felix still has nearly three and a half years left on his deal with the Spanish club, which might be a huge stumbling block.

With little chance of recouping the amount paid in 2019, club officials may have to review matters on a window-by-window basis in order to find a solution that works for all parties.

Atletico Madrid has agreed to pay €20m (£17.29m) to seal the permanent acquisition of Antoine Griezmann.

With no constraints on the Frenchman’s game time, Felix has practically been demoted to third choice at best in the pecking order.

According to recent reports, Real Madrid and Manchester United are both keeping an eye on the situation before making an offer for Felix.

While Real considers making a “statement” signing, United considers their alternatives with Cristiano Ronaldo anticipated to leave Old Trafford in one of the next two transfer windows.
