Javier Bordas Claims Barcelona Could Have Signed Manchester City Forward In The Past

There is no denying long-standing interest of Barcelona in Erling Haaland. The Blaugrana, according to Barca Universal, have previously looked into the possibility of signing the Manchester City star because they admire him.

He was the subject of a transfer consideration back in 2022 and it was believed that the player had given his approval. However, the financial situation prevented such an operation and he ultimately signed with Manchester City.

However, former Barcelona director Javier Bordas has now disclosed that Haaland could have been signed by the team well in advance of 2022.

In fact, Bordas claims that the Norwegian international had the opportunity to join the Catalan team while he was still with RB Salzburg.

According to Bordas, the center-forward would have only cost €20 million at the time but the Catalans would have also needed to pay €20 million in commission for Mino Raiola, the player’s agent at the time.

Haland desires to visit Spain. He desired to visit Barça. We would have had to pay Salzburg €20 million for him and Raiola another €20 million. He stated, “It had already exploded”

However, the former director claimed that Barcelona was discouraged from making the move because Luis Suarez was still employed by the team.

“Suarez was present, there were talks, and the coaches decided not to sign him.”

Barcelona is still interested in Haaland, and club president Joan Laporta has big plans to pursue the star player from Manchester City in the summer of 2025.

Barça intends to counter Real Madrid’s planned signing of Kylian Mbappe by acquiring Haaland, and they feel that they will have the financial wherewithal to pursue the goal-scoring sensation when he becomes available in 2025.
