Ibrahimovic Signs A New One-Year Contract With Milan

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has signed a new contract with AC Milan following the club’s Scudetto victory in 2021-22. The 40-year-old has been an important player for the Rossoneri since coming to San Siro for a second stint in January 2020, and head coach Stefano Pioli will be able to call on him again next season.

Ibrahimovic became a free agent on June 30, and speculation over his future raged after it was revealed that he had been playing without an anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee for the previous six months.

The veteran forwards isn’t expected to be fully fit until 2023, but that hasn’t stopped Milan from bringing him back for another full season.

What Are The Details Of Ibrahimovic’s New Milan Contract?

Ibrahimovic has agreed to a new, one-year contract with Milan that will end on June 30, 2023.

According to the agreement, the Sweden international will receive €1.5 million in wages, which might increase if he meets performance-based goals.

Milan issued an official statement confirming new terms for Ibrahimovic, which reads:

“AC Milan is pleased to announce the renewal of Zlatan Ibrahimović’s contract until June 30, 2023.

“The Swedish forward will continue to wear the number 11 shirt.”

How Did Ibrahimovic Perform For AC Milan In 2021-22?

Ibrahimovic’s fitness issues kept him out of Pioli’s starting XI on a regular basis last season, but he still managed 27 games across all competitions.

23 of those appearances were in Serie A, where he scored eight goals as Milan won their first league title in 11 years, while also taking on leadership roles in the dressing room as the squad’s senior member.

When Is Ibrahimovic Going To Retire?

It remains to be seen whether Ibrahimovic’s remarkable career will end in 2022-23, as he recuperates from a serious injury.

The former striker for Inter, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United, who is renowned for claiming in 2017 that he “is a lion, not a human,” responded to retirement rumours in March.

Ibrahimovic said, “I will certainly keep playing for as long as possible, as long as I can get results and am not suffering.”

“I want to end my career without regrets, so I have to maximise my time.”
