Ibrahimovic: Rooney is the perfect strike partner for me

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has described Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney as “perfect” to play alongside.

Ibrahimovic has played just one game for United so far this summer but it only took him four minutes to get on the scoresheet as he scored an overhead kick against Galatasaray on Saturday.

The Swedish superstar is set to be United’s first-choice striker this season and there is no doubting that the 34-year-old has ever been better after his highest ever goalscoring season ever, with 50 goals in 51 games.

Now, heading into the new season with a new team and new players around him, Ibrahimovic has admitted that he’s happy to play with Rooney in attack as the England skipper is perfect for him.

“I think every big player can work with other big players,” the Swedish forward told MUTV. “That’s not a problem. We are 11 players not two players on the pitch. It’s up to the coach what he wants but, with him, I see no problems. Only success.

“I said many years ago the perfect partner for a striker is Wayne Rooney. He works not only for himself but for the striker and the whole team. I’m absolutely happy to be one of the guys beside him.”

Ibrahimovic has won the league title with every single club he has played for. From Malmo, where he started out, to Ajax, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain – the Swede has found incredible success with every club.

United supporters – and the Swede’s teammates – will hope his magic rubs off on them at Old Trafford and they can get back on top of English football after a three-year hiatus.
