‘I prefer To Stay With Barcelona,’ Frenkie de Jong Responds To Manchester United Transfer Talks

Frenkie de Jong has responded to rumors connecting him with a move to Manchester United by stating that he would “prefer to stay with Barcelona.”

De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for £65 million ($82 million) and has since established himself as an important member of the squad, appearing in 139 games across all competitions.

The 25-year-old is under contract at Camp Nou until 2026, but it has been speculated that the Blaugrana may be obliged to transfer him this summer in order to cut costs.

What Has He Said Regarding United’s Interest?

United are expected to complete a deal for De Jong, with sources claiming that Barcelona is willing to let him go provided they can recoup their initial investment in the midfielder.

De Jong has only won one prize in his three years at Camp Nou, the Copa Del Rey, but he has no regrets about joining the Spanish giants and hopes to stay for the foreseeable future.

When asked about Manchester United’s rumored interest in him, the Dutchman told ESPN: “I prefer to stay with Barcelona.

“Barcelona is simply my dream club. From a young age, as well. I also said it. Despite the fact that I had hoped for more in terms of prizes than I’ve received thus far, I’ve never regretted my decision.

“But I have never regretted my choice.”

Has Frenkie De Jong spoken to Ten Hag?

United are expected to be in a strong position to recruit De Jong after appointing former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag as their new permanent boss.

The two previously worked together at Johan Cruyff ArenA, and it’s been said that Ten Hag is eager to get back together at Old Trafford.

De Jong, on the other hand, maintains that he has had no touch with his old manager or anyone else from Manchester United.

“What I’m saying, there is absolutely nothing of an agreement or anything official. At the moment there is no question of it at all,” De Jong added.

“Not that I know of in any case. Or they must not have told me, which I doubt.”
