Herrera: I can’t control how I feel about Man Utd

Ander Herrera has admitted that he gets “embarrassed” by his own celebrations.

Herrera isn’t exactly renowned for his goalscoring attributes, but he’s chipped in with a fair few important goals since joining Manchester United in the summer of 2014.

He netted six league goals in his debut season in English football last year, and has managed two so far this time round, hitting the back of the net against Merseyside duo Liverpool and Everton.

The Spaniard has found himself in-and-out of Louis van Gaal’s starting XI over the past few months and hasn’t added to his tally since mid-October, some 16 games ago now.

And Herrera has admitted this week that he gets embarrassed when watching his celebrations back on replay, even when it’s not him who’s scored the goal.

“Sometimes, when I see myself again, I feel a little bit embarrassed because I cannot control my emotions,” he told United’s official website.

“Like when we won in the last minute against Watford and also just before 80 minutes when we scored against Liverpool, which is a big game for us and our fans.

“I always try to look forward and look to the future and I think this goal can give us a lot of confidence, that’s why I reacted like that. I cannot stop that or change that, it’s the way I feel football and feel about Manchester United.”

Herrera might let his emotions get the better of him, but the Old Trafford faithful will have no problem with it whatsoever. Despite finding himself out of the goals, United have been much improved in 2016, losing just one of their seven games across all competitions since the turn of the year.

Last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton remains the only blip on the calendar, and they bounced back in assured fashion against Stoke City on Tuesday night, with Herrera resigned to a cameo appearance from the bench, while the cameras missed his off-field celebrations this time round.

United travel to in-form Chelsea this weekend, looking to end the Blues’ 10-game unbeaten streak since Guus Hiddink was appointed interim boss.
