Havertz joining Chelsea as most expensive and highest paid in Blues history

Kai Havertz is joining Chelsea as the club’s highest paid player – EVER.

Chelsea will shatter their transfer record after agreeing a £90million fee for Havertz, says The Sun.

Havertz, 21, will bust the club’s pay policy with a £310,000-a-week pay deal — worth £80.6m over five years.

Chelsea have taken a big step forward in their pursuit of the Bayer Leverkusen star and could announce the signing this week.

Sources claim paperwork and signatures are all that is needed to make Havertz the third major transfer of 2020 for the Blues.

He follows Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner through the door at Stamford Bridge.

Roman Abramovich’s summer splurge will not end there, with Chelsea also poised to complete the free transfer of 35-year-old defender Thiago Silva from Paris Saint-Germain this week before wrapping up a £50m deal for England left back Ben Chilwell from Leicester City.

But it is the signing of Bayer Leverkusen star Havertz that will reverberate across Europe, given his standing as one of the best young players on the continent.

Negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing for several weeks but took a significant step forward over the past 48 hours with officials verbally agreeing a £90m total fee.

Chelsea will pay a guaranteed £71.8m to Leverkusen, with the rest made up of performance-related bonuses.

Chelsea will also move to conclude their surprise signing of PSG centre back Silva this week.

The Blues are very close to capturing the Brazilian on a two-year deal after the conclusion of PSG’s Champions League campaign on Sunday.

Chilwell’s transfer is also progressing with Chelsea awaiting an update on the player’s heel injury before closing the protracted deal.
