Gundogan thanks Klopp in Borussia Dortmund farewell message

Ilkay Gundogan has written a farewell message to Borussia Dortmund thanking both Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp after completing his £21m move to Manchester City on Thursday.

Gundogan has spent the last five years at Dortmund, during which time he has become one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga and emerged as a regular for the German national team, too.

At his height with Dortmund he scored in the Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich in 2013 at Wembley but has struggled with injuries over the past two years and is currently nursing a dislocated kneecap, which is keeping him out for the summer months.

However, after developing into a top quality talent at Dortmund, he has written a letter of thanks to those that helped him achieve what he did, especially Tuchel and current Liverpool manager Klopp, whom he will play against in the Premier League next season.

Gundogan made just 25 appearances in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund this season, missing seven of their last nine matches through injury.

He scored once and created 26 chances with three of those directly assisting a goal. He also completed 88% of his passes, which was just 4% fewer than Julian Weigl, who had the highest passing accuracy at the club.
