While awaiting a retrial for alleged child sex offenses, football player Jesse Lingard’s grandfather passed away.
Last year, Kenneth Lingard, 87, was put on trial at Liverpool Crown Court for allegedly sexually abusing a five-year-old girl.
The jury found him not guilty on two charges of indecent assault, but they were unable to reach a decision on the remaining fifteen counts, Reported by independent News.
“On June 10 this year, Kenneth Lingard passed away and a death certificate has been produced,” prosecutor Benjamin Aina KC stated at a hearing on Monday.

After the court learned that Lingard, of Northway, Warrington, was in the hospital, the retrial that was slated for May was postponed until next year.
Following the publication of a documentary in which Jesse Lingard discussed his grandfather’s beneficial influence on his career, the complainant submitted the historic charges concerning the pensioner to police in November 2022.
The jury was informed that the woman sent the midfield player a message after the show aired, saying, “Shame on you, Jesse Lingard.” A ton of falsehoods. You are aware that your grandfather, Kenneth Lingard, sexually assaulted and molested me.
Last April, while playing for FC Seoul in South Korea, the former Manchester United and England star traveled to the UK to testify in his grandfather’s defense.
“If I knew any of these allegations, I’d have cut ties with him years ago,” the football player, who currently plays for the Brazilian team Corinthians, told the court, denying knowing about any alleged abuse.
Former powerlifter and gymnastics coach Lingard told the court that the assaults “never happened.”
