Graham Potter Hails Chelsea Players After Comeback Win Over Dortmund

Chelsea head coach Graham Potter has hailed his side’s fantastic performance as they advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea entered Tuesday’s match at Stamford Bridge trailing 1-0 on aggregate and knew that losing would likely mean missing out on Champions League football in 2023-24.

Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz’s goals gave the Blues a well-deserved comeback victory, due to the West Londoners’ united performance at home.

Sterling rifled into the roof of the net from 12 yards near the conclusion of the first half, before Havertz calmly converted a penalty at the second try after his first attempt had struck the post.

While Havertz tried to hide his frustration, VAR ruled that the Dortmund player who cleared the ball after the miss had encroached, giving the forward a second chance.

Similar to how they handled some nerve-racking situations against Leeds United on Saturday, Chelsea came through the final 30 minutes with a united front.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Potter admitted that it had been a “tense” evening, but that his players deserved to win, which he hopes will lead to a change in fortunes in the long run.

“There is a lot of emotion in the end. It was tense in the end but the boys played fantastic. I am delighted for them to get the win and great for everyone here.

Chelsea, who take on Leicester City on Saturday, will have to wait more than a week to find out who their opponents in the last eight will be, with the last 16 not concluding until March 15.
