Gnabry reflects on incredible rise from Arsenal flop to Champions League winner

Serge Gnabry has reflected upon his rise after helping Bayern Munich to win the Champions League.

Gnabry featured as Bayern beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the final in Lisbon but made just one Premier League appearance while on loan at West Bromwich Albion from Arsenal in the 2015-16 season.

The winger was always seen as a very talented player and, having overcome the setbacks caused by injuries and that challenging loan spell, he has proceeded to fulfil his vast potential.

Gnabry told BT Sport: ‘Winning that trophy is the best thing that could have happened. The spirit we talk about came through and we are the best team in Europe. It was always going to be difficult and in the end we came through.

‘As long as it was 0-0, they have some incredible talent, lucky they didn’t score and happy we did.

Coman scored the winner in the 59th minute with a header following a cross from Joshua Kimmich.

Gnabry was full of praise for the impact that his team-mate made.

He said: ‘The King helped us extremely, We knew it was going to be difficult for them and for him to come in and score was incredible.’

One of Bayern’s strengths is their ability to keep pushing forward, with the club having a squad with a healthy mix of young and experienced players.

Gnabry says that the Bayern youngsters are eager to replicate the success that the club has enjoyed in the past.

‘For sure, it has always been said the spirit in this group is crazy, we have a strong bond and hopefully we can build on it.’
