Gavi Set To Sign New Barcelona Contract On Thursday

Barcelona midfielder Gavi is expected to sign a new contract with the Blaugrana on Thursday this week.

After making a big impression at Camp Nou last season, the 18-year-old has already established himself as a regular for club and country at such a young age.

Gavi appeared 46 times for La Blaugrana in all competitions in 2021-22, scoring two goals and assisting six times in 33 La Liga appearances.

Xavi has kept trust in Gavi this season, as the teenager has started all five of Barcelona’s La Liga games so far, with the Catalans claiming 13 points from a potential 15.

The midfielder’s quick ascent has also seen him become a vital part of Luis Enrique’s Spain side, gaining 10 caps and registering his first goal against the Czech Republic in the Nations League last month.

With La Blaugrana still struggling financially, both Liverpool and Bayern Munich are rumoured to be keeping a close eye on Gavi’s status if he fails to commit to a new contract.

Did Gavi Sign New Contract?

However, Spanish outlet Sport now reports that Gavi is set to sign a new long-term deal until 2026 on Thursday, following Barcelona’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

According to the report, the availability of president Joan Laporta was a major factor in determining the date for a renewal, and Gavi could then be introduced on the Camp Nou field as a new signing.

Following the announcement of his new four-year contract, Gavi is expected to show his abilities on the Camp Nou field in front of the media, like Hector Bellerin and Marcos Alonso have done.

Gavi has made 53 senior appearances for Barcelona since coming from Real Betis’ academy in 2015 and advancing through the Masia youth ranks. He is anticipated to be part of Spain’s World Cup squad in 2022.

This season, the teenager has been predominantly used in Xavi’s midfield alongside Pedri and Sergio Busquets, allowing Franck Kessie and Frenkie de Jong to compete for minutes on the bench.
