The midfielder has become one of England’s most important players and was recently named vice-captain by Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel praised Rice’s football intelligence, leadership qualities and consistency, describing him among Europe’s finest midfielders today.
Pearce Wants Rice To Take Greater Responsibility
Despite admiring Rice’s performances, Pearce believes the Arsenal star can have an even bigger influence during matches.
The former West Ham coach highlighted Rice’s physical strength, technical ability and match-winning qualities as key assets.
Pearce suggested Rice possesses the talent to dominate games single-handedly but would like to see more authority.
He also questioned why Rice has not taken more free-kicks after scoring twice brilliantly against Real Madrid.
Pearce argued the England international should back himself and take greater ownership of set-piece responsibilities regularly.
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane previously made similar observations regarding Rice’s leadership on the pitch, reports Metro.
Following Arsenal’s defeat to Bournemouth, Keane urged the midfielder to show stronger authority and organise teammates.
However, the Irishman later praised Rice for responding positively and raising his performances during crucial moments.
Keane acknowledged that Rice had stepped up following setbacks and demonstrated the leadership expected from elite players.
With the World Cup approaching, England will hope Rice continues developing those qualities on football’s biggest stage.
