Fan’s petition demanding replay of Barcelona 6-1 PSG gets over 100,000 signatures

A Real Madrid supporter is petitioning Uefa to demand that the second leg of Barcelona‘s remarkable Champions League Last 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain should be replayed.

Barcelona, who were trailing 4-0 from the first leg, made it through to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition with a 5-1 victory at the Nou Camp this week, but many supporters of rival teams felt that Luis Enrique’s side received favourable treatment from referees.

Real Madrid fan Luiz Melendo set up the petition on change.org on Friday night.

Melendo was heavily critical of referee Deniz Aytekin’s performance in the game and believed that the official made a catalogue of mistakes.

Firstly he felt that Luis Suarez’s goal in the third minute should have been ruled out for offside, while a penalty should have been awarded against Javier Mascherano when the Argentine handled inside the area in the 11th minute.

Melendo added that Gerard Pique should have been sent off in the 23rd minute. The Spanish defender was at the centre of controversy again in the 42nd minute and Melendo felt that Pique should have been booked only for PSG’s Edinson Cavani to instead be the recipient of a yellow card.

He also slammed the officials for adding three minutes onto the end of the first half.

In the 48th minute Neymar was given a penalty, with Lionel Messi converting the spot-kick, but Melendo claimed that the Brazilian winger deliberately sought contact.

In the 54th minute Neymar went down in the area once more, with the 25-year-old again being questioned for simulation.

There was also a claim that Neymar should have been sent off for an act of aggression in the 64th minute, while Pique wasn’t punished for a handball in the area.

Melendo argued that PSG should have been given a penalty when Mascherano brought down Angel Di Maria, and Suarez was criticised for diving to win a spot kick in the dying moments.

Melendo suggested that the five minutes of added time at the end of the game was excessive, and believed that Suarez should have been sent off for diving again in an attempt to win a penalty.
