Fan Receives 40 Years Stadium Ban For Attacking Goalkeeper

Dutch football club PSV Eindhoven have issued a 40-year stadium ban on a supporter who entered the field and assaulted an opposing player.

A supporter rushed onto the field during PSV’s Europa League home match against Sevilla in February. He proceeded to punch the Spanish team’s goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic.

Footage showed the fan approaching Dmitrovic and punching him in the head. Before being swiftly grappled by the 6-foot-4-inch Serbian shot-stopper and being led off the field by security officers.

What Did PSV Eindohven Say About The Ban?

“The forty-year-long ban comes on top of a possible fine imposed by UEFA,” PSV said in a statement.

“The pitch invader is currently serving a three-month sentence with one month suspended imposed by the East Brabant District Court.

“He is also barred from the area around the stadium for two years.”

PSV added that since the fan was already serving a stadium ban issued by the Dutch Football Federation. He shouldn’t have been permitted inside the stadium.

The Dutch club said it “strongly condemned the incident.”

This is just a week after a fan was also given a three year ban stadium ban for racially abusing Brentford’s striker, Ivan Toney.

The increase in violence in football has also led to increase in punishment of those instigating the violence. The governing bodies in football have sat upright to punish those who have decided to bring nothing but fracas to the beautiful game.

Sevilla fell short 2-0 but prevailed 3-2 on aggregate and moved on to the round of 16. Where they locked horns with Fenerbache. After defeating the Turkish outfit, the Spanish team will now play Manchester United in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League.
