Former Chelsea and Juventus striker Adrian Mutu has been confirmed as Dinamo Bucuresti’s new general manager on Wednesday.
The former Romania international played for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but saw his career left in disgrace back in September 2004 when he failed a drugs test whilst at Chelsea.
Whilst Mutu went on to play for Italian giants Juventus and Fiorentina, the failed test hampered his career and spells with European minnows Cesena, Ajaccio and Petrolul Ploiesti followed, before a move to India’s Pune City.
Mutu most recently had a spell with ASA Targu Mures, before it was revealed on Wednesday that the 37-year-old had officially retired from football.
And just hours later it has been revealed that Mutu will now be general manager of Dinamo, a club he spent half a season with as a player between 1999-2000.
“I am pleased that Adrian Mutu is today with us and are confident that his experience in international football will lead us to a new standard of performance both domestically and in Europe,” Dinamo’s Ionut Negoita told the club’s official website.
“It’s an honor for me that Dynamo offered me the chance to debut in a role so important and I thank Mr. Negoita for this huge challenge in my career! I hope to repay this trust with results that all you fans of Dinamo await,” Mutu added.
Mutu played over 500 career games and scored a total of 205 goals, after representing 13 different clubs across Asia and Europe.
Mutu also earned 77 caps for his country Romania between 2000 and 2013, scoring 35 goals in the process.
Meanwhile, Dinamo have won just four of their opening 11 league games this season and sit in fifth place in the Romanian League.
