Ex Barcelona Star Scores Hat-trick In Stunning Comeback Win

Former Barcelona and Liverpool forward, Luis Suarez plundered a 19 minute hat-trick in Gremio thrilling comeback win against title challengers, Botafogo on Thursday.

Goals from former Chelsea striker Diego Costa and Junior Santos had given Botafogo a 2-goal advantage, which was increased by Marlon Freitas’s strike to make it a 3-1 deficit for the away team at the beginning of the second half.

Fogo were hoping to halt a miserable run of three straight losses that had caused them to lose their grip on the league. But lose their guard after just four minutes of the goal from Freitas.

Three minutes later, Suarez increased his tally, levelling the score and turning the tide in his team’s favor. The winner was subsequently claimed by the former Ajax man, who raced onto a deep pass and fired it into the corner.

Gremio now tie at the top in the Brazilian Serie A with their hosts, having accumulated 59 points. Palmeiras sits level on points with the pair, while Bragantino is only one point behind.

It’s looking like a fascinating finish to the league season—after 32 games. The top six teams in the division are separated by just five points.

Since joining the Porto Alegre-based outfit in January, Suarez has been on a spectacular roll, tallying 14 goals and dishing out 10 assists in 28 league games.

In recent months, the Uruguayan has been linked to a move to Inter Miami, where he would be able to get back together with friend and former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.
