Everton Join West Ham In Race To Sign Hull City Defender Jacob Greaves

Premier League teams are interested in Jarrad Branthwaite, and Everton is considering a move for Hull City’s talented center-back Jacob Greaves, according to The Mirror.

The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the top center backs in the Championship for the current campaign. He has started 34 of the 35 games for Liam Rosenior’s Hull team this season, making him a consistent presence at the defense.

The news source claims that Everton is keeping an eye on the recent graduate of Hull Academy after Sean Dyche and his group identified the player as a target before to the summer transfer window.

Everton, though, might have fierce competition because Greaves has long been admired by West Ham. The left-footed center back was heavily linked to a move with the Hammers.

The Toffees’ deliberate move for Greaves stems from their persistent interest in their young center-back Branthwaite, who is rumored to be a target for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Hull’s attempt to get promoted to the Premier League, where the Tigers are presently ranked sixth in the Championship, will determine Greaves’ future. Their chances of keeping the highly-rated defender would increase if they were to secure promotion at the end of the season.

The Englishman’s deal at the MKM Stadium expires in June 2026, with the possibility of an additional year. Transfermarkt has valued the player at £12 million.

record of defense

Everton’s defense has an incredible record, giving up just 37 goals—the fourth-best in the Premier League, behind only Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and joint-best with Aston Villa—while the team struggles offensively, having scored just 29 goals in the league this season.

Their defensive record is due in part to their low-block style, which is compact, as well as the dynamic defensive skills of James Tarkowski and Brentwaite, who play center back.

In the meanwhile, Branthwaite is expected to leave Goodison Park. Greaves would be a clear like-for-like replacement for Branthwaite, and Sean Dyche’s team is already considering potential alternatives.

Next, Everton will visit Old Trafford to play United as  they search for their first Premier League victory since the 2-0 away victory over Burnley on December 16th.
