Emiliano Martinez Set For Aston Villa Talks After Controversial World Cup Celebrations

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has confirmed he will hold talks with Emiliano Martinez over his controversial World Cup celebrations with Argentina.

The Albiceleste shot stopper established a name for himself with his gamemanship during the tournament, which reached a peak after Argentina’s win in the final when he celebrated in unorthodox manner after winning the Golden Glove trophy.

Martinez’s boorish behavior did not end in Qatar, as he walked around Buenos Aires cradling a baby with Kylian Mbappe’s face affixed to it.

Emery, who took over at Villa in late October, stated that he will talk with his goalkeeper.

‘I want to speak with him when he will come here next week but I am thinking more about his performance and his win, than his celebration, Emery said as quoted by Daily Mail.

‘The celebration is for the supporters, with really big emotions. It’s not really a good moment as a coach to identify why.

‘I prefer to be focused on how he performed and how he is going to win with us afterwards. I am going to speak with him because I want to control him about that as well – his emotions.

‘We have to have values, we have to focus on behaviour when we are together and with the opposition players.

Martinez has been allowed further time off following Qatar 2022 by Emery, which means he will miss the Boxing Day match against Liverpool but should be fit for the trip to Tottenham on New Year’s Day.

Villa fans plan to honour Martinez with a banner at the Holte End congratulating him on becoming a world champion.

Emery is likely to start Robin Olsen in place of Martnez on Boxing Day if he is fit.
