Dortmund rule Mario Gotze out till next season

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze has been ruled out of the remainder of the season through illness.

As reported by BBC Sport, the German international, who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina, won’t add to his 11 Bundesliga appearances for BVB this term as bids to recover from a “metabolic disorder”.

Gotze rejoined Dortmund from Bayern Munich last summer but as struggled to hold down a regular place in the side due to injuries and a statement released on the club’s official website today has revealed that the 24-year-old is expected to be full fit for the start of next season.

“The long-term target for the player is to be fully fit and ready to play for the start of next season”.

Furthermore, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has wished the playmaker a speedy recovery: “BVB wishes Mario Götze a fast recovery, also in the name of their 10 million fans.”

Gotze had netted once and weighed in with the same number of assists in the top flight of German football before seeing his campaign ended prematurely. He had a shot accuracy of 80% and an average pass accuracy of 83%.
