DONE DEAL! Cavani signs one-year contract extension with Manchester United

Edinson Cavani has put pen to paper on a one-year extension with Manchester United, following talks with the club.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been forthcoming in recent weeks regarding his desire to see the in-form veteran continue at Old Trafford, and now an agreement has been reached.

Cavani, 34, has signed until the summer of 2022 after turning down an enticing offer from Boca Juniors in order to spend one more season in elite European football.

It is expected that United will confirm the news imminently, ahead of their match with Leicester City on Tuesday evening.

The news arrives off the back of a dazzling run for Cavani, who recently hit a brace in Rome to book United’s place in the Europa League final, before coming off the bench to score against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Uruguayan has now displaced Marcus Rashford as United’s first choice forward, though Solskjaer remains insistent that the minutes of the veteran star must still be monitored.

Cavani signed on a free transfer from French giants Paris Saint-Germain in October 2020, reportedly taking a 35 per cent pay cut to move to Old Trafford but netting a signing on fee in the region of £6million.
