Demba Ba releases message of thanks after horrific leg break

Demba Ba has thanked his supporters following the former Chelsea striker’s horrific leg break.

On Sunday, the Shanghai Shenhua star was stretchered off in the 70th minute of the derby against Shanghai SIPG.

Ba suffered a broken leg after an unfortunate tangle around 25 yards from goal, which drew tributes and concern from around the football world.

Manager Gregorio Manzano was understandably highly concerned about the injury, stating that he feared for the centre-forward’s career.

The ex-Newcastle United man has now responded to the widespread support, writing on Twitter: “After few days, I just act knowledge of all the support around the world. May God guide us and bless us all. Thank you.”

The 31-year-old was enjoying a successful season in the Chinese Super League until that point, topping the goal rankings with 14 in 18 matches.

He is currently one season into a three-year contract with Shenhua, following a stint at Besiktas.

In his one campaign with the Istanbul giants, Ba was similarly prolific. Indeed, he netted 18 times in 29 Turkish Super Lig fixtures, while notching five assists.

Meanwhile, though the Shanghai derby has now paled into near-insignificance, the 2-1 victory for Ba’s side leaves them in fifth position – 17 points behind leaders Guangzhou Evergrande.
