Darwin Nunez Fuels Liverpool Exit Speculation With Social Media Activity

Darwin Nunez fueled speculation that he might leave Liverpool this summer by deleting all photographs from his Instagram page.

According to reports in England, Nunez, who is said to have been chased by manager Jurgen Klopp rather than the club’s recruitment team, could be moved this summer due to interest from Barcelona, which is looking for a long-term successor for Robert Lewandowski. Darwin Nunez fueled speculation that he might leave Liverpool this summer by deleting all photographs from his Instagram page.

Nunez was left out of the starting eleven for Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, only coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes.

The assumption grew after the last whistle, when Nunez erased all Liverpool-related photos from his Instagram, leaving only a tag in his bio.

Nunez’s Facebook still contains images from his time at Benfica, but the postings that follow are all about his family or the Uruguay national team.

Liverpool struck an £85m deal to sign Nunez from Benfica in 2022 and reports suggest they have already paid a total of £76.5m, with the remaining £8.5m still linked to unspecified clauses relating to both team and individual performance.

As a result, Nunez is officially Liverpool’s record signing, eclipsing the £75m paid to sign centre-back Virgil van Dijk, but many Reds fans fear they have not received value for their sizeable expense.

Despite the speculation, Nunez has enjoyed a better season in front of goal this year compared to his debut campaign. After 15 goals and four assists in 2022/23, Nunez has racked up 18 and 13 this time around, but some supporters have still been left wanting more.
