Chelsea Readying Formal Approach For Brighton Midfielder

Chelsea are reportedly set to formally approach Brighton & Hove Albion about signing midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The 21-year-old tried and failed to get a move away from the Amex Stadium in January, when two bids from Arsenal were turned down.

Caicedo infamously expressed his wish to leave on social media, but Brighton remained hard and refused Arsenal’s attempts before tying the midfielder down to a new contract until 2027.

Caicedo’s contract was renewed, however, for financial reasons rather than any prospect of keeping him at the club in the long term, with the Seagulls just expecting to get the highest possible sum from any transfer.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has stated that Caicedo may have played his final game for the club, and Chelsea are said to be the frontrunners to recruit the former Independiente del Valle player this summer.

With the Blues on the cusp of completing many high-profile departures, Sky Sports News says that they will make an official bid for Caicedo soon.

Chelsea have already said farewell to N’Golo Kante, who has joined Al-Ittihad on a free transfer, while Mateo Kovacic is expected to join Manchester City in a £30m move.

Also, Kai Havertz will shortly undergo a medical ahead of a £65m move to Arsenal, while Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, and Kalidou Koulibaly are all on their way to Saudi Arabia.

Uncertainty surrounds the futures of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher, with the latter being tracked by Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur, and Brighton.

Chelsea are delaying big-money bids until sales are completed, but there is expectation that a flurry of exits will take place before the end of the month, allowing them to speed up their efforts to sign Caicedo.
