Chelsea New Boy Fofana Becomes Club’s Record Defensive Signing

Wesley Fofana has completed his move to Chelsea from Leicester City for a club-record £75m fee including add-ons.

The 21-year-old defender signs a seven-year deal with the Blues after leaving Leicester. He will play alongside Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly in Chelsea’s three-man defense under Thomas Tuchel.

With the move, Fofana breaks Marc Cucurella’s ($62m) previous record for the most expensive defensive signing in Blues history earlier in the transfer window.

In his first season, the Frenchman, who joined Leicester City in 2020, was a regular starter for Brendan Rodgers. He fractured his ankle in the middle of the 2021–22 season, but he returned to full fitness in March and will be able to join the Chelsea team right away.

He took part in 52 games for Leicester in total, with 37 of those games taking place in the Premier League.
