Chelsea Manager Named Head Coach Of US National Team

The United State Women’s National Team (USWNT) announces the appointment of Chelsea women’s head coach, Emma Hayes on a contract through 2027.

According to The Globe And Mail, Hayes will not take over the four-time Women’s World Cup winners until May. This will give her just a little period of time with the squad before they begin participation at the Paris Olympics in late July.

Interim coach Twila Kilgore will stay in charge of the national team until the arrival of Hayes after the Women’s Super League season concludes, at which point she will work as one of her assistants.

“Emma is a fantastic leader and world class coach who sets high standards for herself and for everyone around her,” U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said in a statement.

“She has tremendous energy and an insatiable will to win. Her experience in the USA, her understanding of our soccer landscape.

“And her appreciation of what it means to coach this team makes her a natural fit for this role and we could not be more pleased to have her leading our Women’s National Team forward.”

Hayes will succeed Vlatko Andonovski, who resigned after the United States’ dismal performance in the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this past summer.

After a scoreless draw with Sweden in the Round of 16, the Americans—who had won two straight World Cups—bowed out on penalties, marking their earliest-ever elimination from the competition.

Since taking over the reins at Chelsea in 2012, The 47-year-old has guided the Blues to two domestic league and cup doubles as well as one treble.

Before leaving the London outfit, she will have the opportunity to win a seventh WSL championship. As they are presently leading the league table on 16 points.
