Cascarino: Arsenal may have made one of the worst signings of all time in Xhaka

Granit Xhaka is “one of the worst signings of the season” and could potentially be Arsenal‘s worst transfer of all time,
according to Tony Cascarino.

Xhaka put in arguably his worst performance for Arsenal since completing a transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer against Crystal Palace on Monday – a fixture that the Gunners lost 3-0.

Xhaka has made 24 Premier League appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring one goal, with the Gunners’ Champions League aspirations now hanging by a thread.

The Swiss international has struggled to impose himself in north London with his poorly timed tackling and overbearing aggression leading to a number of issues.

And while much of the blame for the Palace lost fell on Arsene Wenger’s head, Cascarino has criticised Xhaka’s showings this season.

The former Aston Villa and Chelsea player believes that none of the players signed by Wenger this season have been good enough, in particular calling out Xhaka’s performances.

Cascarino told TalkSPORT: “Arsenal spent over £90million in the summer and none of the signings have proven themselves.

“Lucas Perez has hardly had a kick, he’s in and out of the team. He looks a good player but just doesn’t play often enough.

“Granit Xhaka has been one of the worst signings of the season. Maybe the worst of all time? He’s been very poor.”
