Carragher Points Finger At Liverpool Star Playing In ‘Slow Motion’ Against Man United

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has reportedly accused Cody Gakpo of playing in ‘slow motion’ in the Reds FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester United.

After 77 minutes of the game, the Dutch forward was brought on to replace Mo Salah. However, he did not make an adequate impression, as Antony had to send the game into extra time. Gakpo had little effect other than to pick out Alexis Mac Allister, who failed to convert his cross.

Erik ten Hag’s team won spectacularly thanks to the efforts of Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo. But the Reds were unable to hold out after Harvey Elliott gave them the lead once more. Diallo got a second yellow card when he took off his shirt to celebrate his last minute goal.

According to The Mirror, Carragher feels that Liverpool caused their own collapse and specifically singled out Jurgen Klopp’s forward line—which goes beyond just Gakpo—for not living up to expectations. Even so, he acknowledged that the club’s attackers were having a rare off day.

The former Liverpool defender said on X: “Unbelievable game & it’s a great result for Man United but Liverpool only have themselves to blame.

“Scored three & still the attacking players were all very poor. Can’t complain too much as they’ve been amazing all season. Football bloody hell!”

Liverpool will resume their campaign against Brighton and Hove Albion after the international break which commences this week. The Reds still have the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League to contend with.
