Bundesliga: Free-scoring Bayern Munich Make History Despite Losing Lewandowski

Bayern Munich may have said goodbye to Robert Lewandowski over the summer, when the prolific Polish striker moved to Barcelona, but the club have still been able to make history in terms of goal scoring. The reigning Bundesliga champions have made an impressive start to the 2022-23 season, hitting the target 15 times in three games.

They have only been broken once, and no side has ever been so dominant at the start of a German top-flight season.

Have Bayern Munich Broken a New Bundesliga Record?

Julian Nagelsmann’s free-scoring team thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 in their first game, then cruised past Wolfsburg 2-0 at the Allianz Arena.

Another trip resulted in a 7-0 thrashing of Bochum on Sunday, with the record books being rewritten in that encounter.

Who Is The Top Performer For Bayern Munich In 2022-23?

While Lewandowski left in July, Bayern has since signed Serge Gnabry to a new deal and signed Senegal international superstar Sadio Mane from Liverpool.

He scored twice against Bochum, giving him four goals in as many games this season, while Kingsley Coman had a goal and two assists.

Leroy Sane was another to hit the target, capitalising on the absence of others to earn a starting spot, and Nagelsmann is happy with the progress of a divisive winger who has failed to deliver his best for Bayern.

He stated of Sane, “He did really well today.”

“He’s a player who divides opinions, there was criticism in the past few weeks. He’s a very good footballer.

“When he’s 100% up for it, he’s one of the best players in Europe. He’s quick, has good dribbling, finishing, good timing.”

Bayern will return to action on Saturday when they visit Borussia Monchengladbach, with Nagelsmann’s team already the only ones with a perfect Bundesliga record.
