Brahim Diaz Likely To Be Marco Asensio Replacement At Real Madrid

Real Madrid are reportedly considering Brahim Diaz as a potential replacement for Marco Asensio when the Spanish attacker leaves the club as a free agent next summer.

Due to having only a year left on his contract, Asensio was often linked with a move away from the Bernabeu during the summer transfer window.

The playmaker eventually stayed at Los Blancos due to a number of reasons, but the 26-year-old has had another tough six weeks under Carlo Ancelotti.

Only four substitute appearances totalling 48 minutes have been made in all competitions, with Asensio admitting disappointment at not being able to come off the bench against Mallorca earlier in September.

Unless the Spain international is given more game time in October and early November, it appears that he will be allowed to engage with foreign teams about a pre-contract arrangement in January.

Brahim Diaz To Replace Marco Asensio At Real Madrid?

However, according to reports in Spain, Real Madrid already have a backup plan in place if Asensio opts to become a free agent.

Diaz, who played for Real Madrid between January 2019 and September 2020, has been able to kick-start his career with AC Milan after only seeing limited action in his homeland.

In 86 appearances for the Italian giants over the past two seasons, the 23-year-old has provided 12 goals and nine assists, helping his current side win Serie A in 2021-22.

Although the Spain international has been less active since the middle of August, Milan will seriously consider activating his buy option next season.

According to the report, the clause is valued €22m (£19.62m), but it is an offer that Diaz’s parent club Real Madrid may eventually meet.

If the Champions League champions want to keep the former Manchester City youngster, they can activate a €30m  (£26.75m) clause.

At a time when president Florentino Perez may be focusing his attention on other parts of the field, keeping Diaz for £7m may be considered good value.

Diaz has only made six starts and 15 substitute appearances for Real Madrid before going to Milan, contributing two goals and three assists.
