Benfica legend all but confirms Lindelof’s £42m move to Man United

Benfica legend Antonio Veloso has appeared to confirm Victor Lindelof’s move to Manchester United by claiming the club are sorry to see the defender leave.

Lindelof, 22, is believed to be close to sealing a £42million move to Old Trafford after the Red Devils held talks with Benfica’s president in Manchester last week.

The Swedish international has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising centre-backs and could play his last game for the club at the Estádio da Luz tonight.

Veloso made over 419 appearances for Benfica over a 15-year span and the club legend has appeared to confirm Lindelof is joining United.

‘It’s no surprise to me that Lindelof is being transferred,’ said Veloso.

‘I just did not know if it would be now or at the end of the season, since there was strong interest from Manchester United and other clubs.

‘He is an important player in Benfica, but the team has other high-quality ones like Jardel or Lisandro, and does not lose.

‘But we are sorry to see him leave, of course.’
