Bayern Lead Real Madrid In Race To Sign Man United Star

Bayern Munich are reportedly set to table a bid for Manchester United defender, Raphael Varane in January so as to gazump Real Madrid off the deal.

The German strongholds, according to the Spanish newspaper SPORT as reported by CaughtOffside are prepared to spend up to €20 million for the 2018 World Cup winner.

Given that two of their stars will be away on international duty in January, Bayern will be in dire need of a centre back.

Alongside Kim Min-jae, another defender Noussair Mazraoui will be playing for Morocco at the African Cup of Nations while Kim is off to play for South Korea in the Asian Cup.

The former Real Madrid defender is no longer an integral part of the United squad. At the moment, the club ranks him as their fifth-choice central defender.

In the right order of precedence are Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw. Varane regaining his spot in the starting lineup will be even harder once Lisandro Martinez returns from his injury.

Varane is valued between €15 and €20 million by the Red Devils, and they won’t prevent him from leaving the club.

According to recent remarks made by Erik ten Hag, Varane and Maguire are not an idea partnership.

“There are moments in certain games where they [Maguire and Varane] can play together and they have already proven they can do it,” he said.

“But the build-up is not that fluid when one of them is playing from the left centre-back position.“

Real Madrid, Varane’s former club, and Al-Nassr, a Saudi outfit where his old colleague Cristiano Ronaldo plays football, are also showing interest in him.
