Batshuayi shock after ending as Chelsea’s top FA Cup scorer… despite leaving in January!

MIchy Batshuayi was busy congratulating his Chelsea team-mates on their FA Cup triumph on Saturday when was supporter delivered a rather important piece of information to him.

Batshuayi took to social media to heap praise on the Blues… only to then find out he had actually finished as the club’s top scorer in the competition.

The Belgian striker left the club on loan in January, though such was Chelsea’s limited goal-scoring exploits in the cup he still managed to finish on top.

Batshuayi had hit three FA Cup goals in the early stages of the tournament in three games before moving out temporarily to Borussia Dortmund.

Despite Chelsea boasting the likes of Eden Hazard and £75million man Alvaro Morata in their ranks, nobody was able to better the 24-year-old’s total.

Batshuayi’s reaction made the situation all the more comical, after a fan replied to his tweet stating: ‘You are the top scorer in the FA cup though!.’

Bemused by the information amid offering congratulations to his fellow Chelsea stars back in London, Batshuayi replied: ‘Lol really ??? Didn’t even know.’

The striker made the switch to the Bundesliga during the January window after growing frustrated with a lack of game time at Stamford Bridge.

He decision, however, was soon vindicated.

A purple patch of form in the German top flight saw Batshuayi fill the void left by the departed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and hit seven goals in nine league games.

Batshuayi also bagged a further two goals in Dortmund’s Europa League campaign.
